The importance of local democracy
Local democracy is part of society. It helps provide a voice for local people and provides local communities with a focal point for the services they receive. Services such as bin collections, planning, housing and leisure are all provided by your local district council.
But plans have been discussed at a county level to create a unitary authority which could impact upon the services you receive. We went out on the streets of Bolsover District to ask what local residents, businesses and councillors thought of the idea.

B@Home Completion
The final council house in a four-year building project has been completed and handed over to Bolsover District Council. The Council, in partnership with Robert Woodhead Ltd embarked on the £14.7 million programme in 2015 to build over 100 high quality, energy efficient homes. We spoke to Cabinet Member for Housing, Cllr Sandra Peake from Bolsover District Council and David Pearson from contractors Robert Woodhead Ltd about the scheme.

Super Tots sessions are aimed at children aged 18 months to 5 years old to help them undertake at least three hours of activity per day. Originally built as a hilltop pleasure-palace of captivating Cavalier William Cavendish, spectacular illuminations and entertainment bought Bolsover Castle back to life. A carnival atmosphere with courtly performers, jesters and fire breathers entertained the guests royally against the backdrop of the castle lit up in spectacular colourful lights.

Bolsover TV has been launched by Bolsover District Council. We make fortnightly programmes about what’s happening in the area that promote our communities, attractions, groups and businesses.
We also create fab films aimed at keeping our local residents informed, promoting what is going on within our local communities, attracting visitors to the area and encouraging businesses to invest in our district.
Launched in March 2019, our aim is to spread the word about how great Bolsover District is and what a great place it is to live, work, visit and play.
